Hmm. I probably should've taken the tunnel to the right but that impish man told me to go left &, since he seemed like a nice enough person, I took him at his word. Perhaps that was a mistake. She does seem like a nice troll. She has all her teeth and lots of hair. Her eyes are big & golden. 

Oh, she moved a bit forward. Um, I wonder if I talked nicely to her, she would let me pass. Those hands seem like they could crush me, but I should be fine. Here goes nothing.

"Hey, how did a good-looking woman like you end up in a place like this?" I said with a smile.

She frowned then quickly ran her grubby fingers through her hair as if to straighten it. Was she blushing?

"Thank you," she finally said. "If you tell my mate that, I let you pass." I hesitated. "Worry not. You're not my type."

My words wouldn't come so I merely nodded. What happened next turned into a friendship that still exists today. Who knew trolls liked to be complimented.

I once wrote a short story about a widow in the 20th century who had a dark secret. She was a witch. A real witch with the ability to take revenge on those who had taken her husband's life. The darkness took a strong hold on her for her grief was too strong. She engulfed the entire village in flames. Everything was gone. She walked through the flames unscathed yet alone still. 💔

Dark Awakening

Yes, the gnome ultimately meted out justice to the puppeteer of the plot. However, the entire affair was so vast and intricate that the conflict merely served as a side story. And I have taken quite a liking to this hammer.

Inspired by the gnome’s river journey from my previous collection, this series unveils the subsequent chapters of his saga.  May it captivate both those familiar with his path and those yet to discover his adventures. The story unfolds in the sequence of the paintings, from bottom to top.
