The movie is about an all day Saturday detention class for a group of high school students because they had misbehaved before. The original screenplay title was "The Lunch Bunch". But a director's friend from some other school suggested "The Breakfast Club" instead because at his high school and only in that one during his school time was called colloquially "Breakfast Club". That became the movie title. However that term is already taken for the school service of providing breakfast to children before class, usually because they either come from neighborhoods in which parents can't afford breakfast or the parents have to work at the time and can't supervise their kids. (Other countries don't even have that and no clue about any meaning of that term whatsoever.) So originally, even English speaking audiences were irritated. Save those from one school.
