I'd been thinking for a while about creating something with Raymond Burr in his famous role as Perry Mason in a courtroom scene, but I wasn't sure just what he should be doing in it. I finally decided that Lt. Columbo of LAPD Homicide (played by Peter Falk) has just testified for the prosecution to explain to the jury, in excruciating detail, how his investigation led him to conclude that Perry's client was the murderer. Now Perry gets to cross-examine and try to poke holes in Columbo's reconstruction of what "must have happened."
Since Perry Mason, in his old TV series (1957 to 1966), always got his client acquitted, and since Columbo, in his many TV appearances over a period of decades (beginning in 1968), always managed to identify the real killer, no matter how cleverly the suspect had tried to conceal his or her guilt, it would be fascinating to see what happened when these two great minds were on opposite sides in the same murder case.
