Gordy the Golden

"Wow mister, he really likes you!" Sean was shocked, he had never seen Gordy act this way with any stranger. He was always a well behaved dog, but his age had begun to show signs, making it difficult for him to run, jump, and play. Meeting this guy had set the clock back ten years in that instant, filling the golden with puppy-like energy the boy had never seen. Gordy barked, wagged his tail happily, and licked the man's face like he had known him for years.

"Yeah, he's a friendly old timer."

"Huh? How do you know that?"

"Just a guess. Take good care of him, you've got the best friend anyone could ask for. Good luck, little man."

Gordy whined as the man stood up to leave, knowing he wouldn't be staying for long. In that instant, even Sean knew there was more to this situation, and he couldn't help but wonder who the man was, and where he came from. There was a certain sadness about him, one the child couldn't place. It was almost like he was saying goodbye to an old friend.
