For readers of Stephen R. Donaldson’s fantasy, that’s a scary title…

"The Ravers cannot die whilst Lord Foul still lives." I didn't know about Herem till just now. For me, turiya is the fourth state beyond work, goofing off, and just plain oblivious. 🙂 I must read Donaldson before I get there.

I believe as a young writer Donaldson randomly grabbed words from Hebrew, Sanskrit, and other languages and assigned them to various characters and things.  There doesn’t seem to be any reason the ravers are called Samadhi, Turiya, Moksha…the nature of the ravers seems utterly unconnected with those concepts.  I don’t think he’s in the top tier of fantasy authors, but he is creative and talented…so I do recommend his works generally.
