I am the only person I have ever been. Often, I wish it weren’t so. I wish I could have seen the thoughts of the doctor who delivered my sister and I, conjoined at the belly button; whether he hacked us apart like a butcher because he knew we would survive, or whether he meant to kill us, or whether he was just a terribly stupid man.
I wish I could have gone inside the head of the woman who raised me, to see why she treated her younger son like a prince and her elder one like a slave. I wish I knew what that elder son was thinking as he caught his brother in the fields one day, and bashed him in the head until his face was all but gone.
I wish I could know what drove my first wife to give her life, not even for me, but for my collection of books. I wish I could know whether my second husband asked his dying patients if he could harvest their organs once they were gone. I wish a lot of things.
Terrific emotion and great storytelling
Such a beautiful and very emotional portrait and story!! It is especially brutal when our young, and potentially, very talented children suffer and die so young for needless reasons. It happens all over the world. I actually work in field of prenatal to age 5, with children and families living in poverty, and suffering many mental health issues. It is very troubling that children so young are already on the way to a life that could mirror your poem, unless we can intervene and make changes in our society. We all need to do better, all life is precious. Thank you Puaro for your wonderful touching creations on serious situations. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The sadness of this tale touches my heart! I have seen such similar situations too many times during my working life of dealing with young people!
