Janine panicked almost instantly. "There are no traces of the acid slime on the other side of the hull?" The engineer nodded slowly. "You are right, this stuff was brought here. And it isn't human-made."

That utterance fell like a hammer. All of the five members of the science spaceship Solarience went pale. "Some one put it here but no one of us?", Sharim the commander asked hoarsely. The crew exchanged bewildered looks. "There is another person on board". That was no question, it was a statement.

"I might have an idea", Janine interrupted the heavy silence. "But you have to do as I say. Nobody saw an unauthorized pers- uh life form so we might be physically unaware of the presence. To prove something is really hard so please be patient - with me and the whole crew.". Janine sounded calmer than she actually was.
