A stringed instrument! Love this, with the idea of blindness a deeper seeing esp in music. Thinking Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder... Brilliant, without any "light" at all. 

I now realize long after the fact (performing terrified me and put quit to any thoughts of a career) that some of the best playing I've ever done was when I wasn't/couldn't 'Play By Eye.' I was being performative without the distraction of continuously looking for the right fret  instead of just playing the Music. It is perfectly possible to play the notes without playing the Music. Empty performative self-gratification devoid of the Music seems to prevail in some sectors. Playing is best when it delivers the thrill of the music instead of awe of the physical process.

Well said, my friend! Yeah, I can go to guitar center and find fourteen-yr-olds who can play technically dizzying feats but it's so much more the spirit a player puts into it than any technical skill they're able to acquire. Yeah, music is something we "become" not something we achieve in any technical way I guess. Like Miles Davis once said to alleviate the shame of one of his band-mates who was grieving over an error they'd apparently made, "There are no mistakes."
