The sharp crack of the musket echoed through the forest like a thunderclap, cutting through the chaos of the night. For a moment, everything seemed to stop—the frantic movements of the villagers, the wild flicker of the torches, and even the howl of the wind through the trees.
Peter felt the burning impact before he heard the shot. The bullet tore through his shoulder, ripping muscle and shattering bone, sending a shockwave of pain through his body. He let out a low, feral growl, stumbling back from his latest victim, his vision blurred by the sudden rush of blood and adrenaline. His chest heaved as he staggered, instinct forcing him to retreat into the shadows, away from the light of the mob’s torches.
Karl lowered his musket, his breath coming in ragged gasps as he watched the beast stagger back into the trees, blood dripping from its dark fur. The shot had landed, but it wasn’t enough. Not yet. They had him on the run, but the wolf was still dangerous—desperate now.

Still, they moved forward, their steps slow and cautious, as they pressed into the trees in pursuit of the fleeing creature.
