Wow last week i  watched a film called the Bone Snatcher and there the Tokoloshe was mentioned in it a few times.

I've seen and heard so many variations on the theme that I'm not at all clear what the Tokoloshe is/was supposed to be according to original folklore.  The common features are that it's a creature summoned or created by the spells of a *sangoma* (diviner) to cause hardship to the victim, that it is capable of shape-shifting, that it can be removed only through the power of ancestors' spirits summoned by another sangoma's spell, and that sprinkling salt on the floor and/or raising the bed on bricks offers some protection at night.

Tokoloshes are malevolent creatures, well-known throughout southern Africa. Some say they are invoked through powerful muthi by someone who wishes you harm.

Raising your bed on piles of bricks (or similar) is the only practical way of preventing a Tokoloshe from wreaking havoc at night until a Sangoma is able to solicit the support of your ancestors' spirits to drive it away.
