Even for superhumans, home is where the heart is. And she has heart!
...she simply has almost nothing else...
Anything that would send someone as powerful as her into both hiding and abject poverty is no small matter. Nonetheless, she takes her role as a protector seriously.
Don't ask what her last meal was or where her next one is coming from. If she was "normal," she'd have died from food poisoning already.
The only hope she clings to is that she knows that she can help those "less fortunate" than herself. Hence, it's not her powers that make her heroic.
