Marcia's first ever new car

“So, what do you think?”

“I love the colour,” was as much as I could reply before she dropped an f-bomb.

We both bent to inspect the trunk lid of her big, beautiful, brand new, royal blue Mustang. A deep gouge ran through the chromed emblem. It continued on through the little heart-shaped sticker next to it, defacing its pale blue, pink and white stripes.

I shared her outrage. Her first ever new car was exactly what she’d dreamed about since childhood.

“It’s just cheap trim. It’s easy to replace, and it was bound to happen sooner or later,” she said as she looked for the nearest surveillance cameras. “Let’s rather get you home.”

The new leather smelled glorious. Even with the top up, the V8 thundered down my spine. She palmed the transmission into first and eased her mutilated pony out of the airport loop.
