As Nietzsche might ask: are these not the shadows on the wall of Plato’s cave? Are we not still prisoners, now chained by algorithms and metrics rather than iron? But let us not forget the danger. The videophonic abyss gazes back. It feeds on the collective perplexity, amplifying it into paralysis. The individual is subsumed, their thoughts shaped and their desires manufactured. What Nietzsche feared in the crowd has been realized in the global network of screens: the death of individuality, the triumph of the mediocre.
To overcome this, one must become a videophonic Zarathustra, descending from the mountains of solitude not to embrace the screen but to challenge it. To ask of every image: “What does this demand of me? Does it weaken my spirit or fortify it? Does it bind me to the herd or free me to dance alone?”
