This piece is inspired by a writing for the production of "Stone" at Judson Church Gallery in New York, March 1966; Yoko Ono.
Statement: "People went on cutting the parts they do not like of me finally there was only the stone remained of me that was in me, but they were still not satisfied and wanted to know what its like in the stone."
This was taken from Yoko Ono's book "Grapefruit," and she goes on with a post script: "If the butterflies in your stomach die, send yellow death announcements to your friends."
We are born pure souls with nearly infinite capability and capacity. From this point though, we are formed, corrected, cut-away throughout our lives until our pieces fit into the puzzle that society has deemed acceptable. We lose wonder, trust and flexibility of mind and form hard calluses. In our stone form, we are then asked why we are less empathetic and joyful as we once were. The death of the butterflies can symbolize the death of excitement, awe and anticipation.
