Maxfield Parrish (1870 β 1966) was a painter and illustrator from the USA. He is known for his distinctive saturated hues and idealised Neo-Classical imagery. He started as a student of Howard Pyle and was part of Pyleβs movement, the Brandywine School. Later he became wildly successful, and his works were associated with the Art Nouveau and Symbolism style. Marvelling at the richness derived from a small range of printerβs inks, Parrish invented a painting system that used only cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
A vibrant image of a cat nestled among flowers, illuminated by tiny heart-shaped lights. The artwork is reminiscent of early 20th-century American illustration, with idealized forms and luminous colors.
