Andreas Vesalius

Andries van Wesel (LA: Andreas Vesalius, van Wezel, van Wesele; 1514 – 1564) was an anatomist and physician from the Southern Netherlands (now Flanders, Belgium), renowned for his detailed and accurate anatomical drawings. His art style is characterised by precise line work and a deep commitment to scientific accuracy, often depicting the human body in intricate detail. Vesalius primarily used pen and ink for his illustrations, contributing significantly to the scientific and artistic understanding of human anatomy. He wrote De Humani Corporis Fabrica Libri Septem (On the fabric of the human body in seven books), which is considered to be one of the most influential books on human anatomy and a major advance over the long-dominant work of Aelius Galenus. His work is associated with the Renaissance movement, bridging the gap between art and science with his groundbreaking anatomical studies.
