It was inevitable that more technically advanced countries would 'discover' other lands and take their version of civilisation and culture to other peoples. But it was a pity that there couldn't be a gentle integration between cultures and not the brutal cruel and overpowering way it was done. We're most familiar with how Europe did it but it's happened countless times when n the past millenniums, just not on the massive scale as done in the last few centuries. 

True.  If you could colour cultures on a map and watch it all unfold on fast forward it would look like a perpetually changing wash of watercolours moving inexorably towards some uniform blend.  At every transient boundary in that wash of colours where people had just enough time (or millenia) to identify that particular transient blend as "uniquely us" there is existential pain and resistance.  And yet we look back and celebrate the blending of those (now largely forgotten) cultures that made us "us".  It's a peculiar dynamic that's becoming increasingly inter-generational as change accelerates, with each generation of parents defending the culture of their past against the changes that their children embrace (until history's inexorable conveyor belt unceremoniously relegates each generation and the culture of their time to fading memory).
