Story Moment: It's a chaotic Friday night outside a worn-down 1980s bowling alley, neon lights flickering above the parking lot filled with beat-up cars and scattered beer cans. The 16-year-old boy, blood running from his broken nose, grips a metal pipe in his hands—his knuckles white, shirt torn at the shoulder. He's surrounded by a group of older teens, maybe 18 or 19, all yelling, circling, throwing punches. His face is swollen, but he’s still standing tall, fueled by rage and pride. A few boys lie groaning on the pavement. Blue and red lights from approaching police cars flash in the background, sirens cutting through the night. As officers flood in to break it up, some boys scatter, others are thrown to the ground and cuffed. The boy doesn’t run. He just stands there, bloodied pipe in hand, chest heaving, staring into the night like he has nothing left to lose. This moment will follow him. It changes things.
