The rapid expansion of outposts into colonies on barren worlds like Iskiri created a demand for a ground vehicle capable of traversing extenuating terrain in an closed environment. Borrowing lessons learned from armored vehicles in the Great War, StarVan opted for an unarmed leg-tank design with rolling 'feet,' giving stability in sand and traction on ice.

The AEV was an ideal exploratory and mining vehicle, and remained in production through scores of variants for almost a century.
