They enjoyed being a bit too serious shopping for matching suits for date night. Or for, well, shopping for the next suit. The store was happy to accommodate their tastes. If a male bought their skirt suit, it was no business of theirs how he used it or why or when. Well, actually, they were glad to give advice for places that welcomed nonconformist dressing.
The shoppers for their part were engaged in a conversation that didn't really matter. The purple or the pink? Or the wild pattern? They would eventually wind up buying them all. They could have bought all at once, but they enjoyed the ritual, and so did the store employees. It took a while to be comfortable with all this. But retail therapy did work. Of course you could buy stuff online and be safe, but supporting local businesses in person was important.
He still wore a three piece suit for date night some of the time, and she sometimes wore a skirt suit, but they enjoyed mixing it up. They'd learned no reason was necessary.
