**Luigi Serafini** (1949 – ) is an Italian artist, architect, and industrial designer, who is renowned for his creation of the **Codex Seraphinianus**. Serafini embarked on the creation of this extraordinary work at the age of 27. The Codex Seraphinianus is an illustrated encyclopaedia of an imaginary world. Serafini’s art style is surreal and highly detailed, with the Codex featuring copious hand-drawn, coloured-pencil illustrations of bizarre and fantastical flora, fauna, anatomies, fashions, and foods. His work has been compared to the still undeciphered *Voynich manuscript*, the story *“Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius”* by Jorge Luis Borges, and the artwork of M. C. Escher and Hieronymus Bosch. The Codex is written in an imaginary language, demonstrating Serafini’s unique art technique. His work has captivated international audiences, making Luigi Serafini a significant figure in the world of art and design.
