Their name is Afrikaans meaning hammer head.
Found throughout wetlands and lakes in sub-Saharan Africa. For a medium sized bird, they build huge nests, 1.5 meters across and strong enough a hold a person's weight. They're compulsive nest builders, making 3-5 mud-walled domed nests each year even though they only use one. Entrance is through the bottom with a tunnel that leads to the nesting chamber. They're like the beavers of the bird world!
