Revolt & Resistance — Grenada (1795–1796)
The Fedon Rebellion of 1795 shook Grenada to its core. Julien Fedon, the son of a free Black woman, led hundreds—enslaved, free, mixed-race—against British rule. For more than a year the rebels held the island’s mountains, rewriting the story Britain insisted was fixed. The revolt was crushed, but its fire never died. Every uprising across the Caribbean carried the same truth forward: that emancipation was not given by Britain — it was taken by the enslaved.
