Channy had always been fascinated by tarot cards. She loved the mysterious symbols, the colorful images, and the feeling of being connected to something bigger than herself. She had a collection of different decks, each with its own personality and style. She used them for guidance, for fun, and for comfort.
But nothing had prepared her for the day when her love, Jake, left her. He had been her soulmate, her best friend, and her partner in crime. They had met at a tarot reading workshop, and it was love at first sight. They had so much in common, and they understood each other on a deep level. They had moved in together, and Channy had thought they would be happy forever.

Skulls do not betoken a happily ever after. I was curious about them right until the end. Good one.
Channy realized what she had done. She realized that she had wasted her life, chasing a ghost, living in a fantasy. She realized that she had lost herself, losing him, loving him. She realized that she had gone too far, and that there was no turning back.
One night, she had a vision. She saw Jake, standing in front of her, smiling and holding a bouquet of roses. He looked at her with love and tenderness, and said, "I'm sorry, Channy. I made a mistake. I love you, and I want you back. Please, forgive me, and take me back."
Channy was overjoyed. She thought her wish had come true. She thought her cards had worked. She thought he had come back. She ran towards him, ready to embrace him, and kiss him, and tell him how much she loved him.
But as she reached him, he vanished. He was not real. He was a mirage, a hallucination, a delusion. He was a product of her imagination, her desperation, her obsession. He was a lie.
Channy refused to believe the cards. She thought they were lying, or testing her, or playing with her. She thought they were wrong, or mistaken, or corrupted. She thought she could change them, or trick them, or manipulate them. She thought she could make them say what she wanted to hear, what she needed to hear, what she deserved to hear.
She became obsessed with the cards. She ignored everything else in her life. She neglected her health, her friends, her family. She isolated herself in her apartment, surrounded by her decks. She lost track of time, of reality, of herself. She lost her mind.
She spent hours, days, weeks, shuffling, drawing, and laying out the cards. She tried different spreads, different questions, different interpretations. She looked for signs, for clues, for answers. She hoped to see the Lovers, the Two of Cups, the Ten of Pentacles. She hoped to see a happy ending, a reconciliation, a reunion.
But the cards were not kind. They showed her the Tower, the Devil, the Three of Swords. They showed her a painful ending, a toxic relationship, a broken heart. They showed her the truth, the reality, the consequences. They showed her that he was not coming back, that he did not love her, that he had moved on.
Channy was devastated. She couldn't eat, she couldn't sleep, she couldn't work. She couldn't stop thinking about him, and wondering what she had done wrong. She couldn't accept that he was gone, and that he didn't love her anymore. She couldn't let him go.
She decided to use her tarot cards to try to bring him back. She believed that the cards had power, and that they could influence the fate of people. She believed that if she could find the right combination of cards, she could make him change his mind, and make him love her again. She believed that she could make him come back.
But then, Jake changed. He became distant, cold, and irritable. He stopped spending time with her, and started working late. He stopped saying "I love you", and started saying "I need space". He stopped looking at her, and started looking at his phone. Channy felt confused, hurt, and betrayed. She tried to talk to him, to find out what was wrong, but he shut her out. He said he was going through a rough patch, and he needed to figure things out. He said he still cared for her, but he wasn't sure if he loved her anymore.
One day, he packed his bags and left. He said he was sorry, but he couldn't stay. He said he hoped they could be friends, but he needed to move on. He said he wished her all the best, but he had to go. He said goodbye, and walked out of the door. Channy felt her heart break into a million pieces. She cried, she screamed, she begged him to come back. But he didn't. He was gone.

Dude, this is a perfect 4th cover description of a book (lacking the correct word here). We are already in the book with this. We already feel that it will be mysterious and that it shall depict human vanity. Don't know why but it reminds me Balzac's La Peau de Chagrin. Amazing book.
