The term "spaghettification" describes what happens when a black hole's gravity stretches matter, like a planet or star, into a noodle-like shape. This happens because the gravity at a person's feet is much stronger than the gravity at their head, causing them to stretch out. While it may seem like a black hole "sucks in" a planet, in reality, an object must fall directly into the black hole's event horizon to be consumed. The event horizon is the black hole's "mouth" and is very small. For example, if Earth were to collapse and form a black hole, its event horizon would be less than an inch across.
