The Borg Collective has tried many times to assimilate Species 5618 - Humanity - in its entirety.
Their efforts have always ended in failure.
Their starship designs have not changed in the memory of the hive mind.
They are supposedly perfect as they are.
Perhaps an imperfect weapon brought to bear against an imperfect species might yield better results.
It is both logical and illogical.
The Collective constructs an Errant Cube and sends it to Sector 001.
The results will be of interest to all parties, to be sure.
