Let's begin from actually the very beginning. In 1366 prince of moscow, vassal of Golden Horde's khan, great prince of Vladimir and Novgorod Dmitriy Ivanovich (later known as Dmitriy Donskoy, because in 1380, 8th september, he with united army of Russian principalities crushed tatar army led by war regent Mamay on Don river, Kulikovo field, after what Moscow principality became almost independent from horde) of Rurikid dynasty married his distant relative Eudoxia, daughter of Suzdal prince Dmitriy (Actually this happy was long - 22 years and very happy, if it interests you, but we are not about it). Before wedding prince of Suzdal gifted his son-in-law a luxurious golden belt, and Dmitriy quite liked it... but soon rumours were spread that in moscow treasury there was pyut a copy, meanwhile original object was stolen by Moscow's 'Tisyazky' Vasiliy Velyaminov and disappeared...for 65 years...
This image shows a dramatic scene of a medieval Russian noblewoman at odds with her husband, as she stands in her fur coat and dress, holding a golden belt aloft in defiance. The scene is set at a lavish wedding feast, with the prince and guests shocked by her bold gesture.

You my wonder (sorry for leaving this story, i was ill at first, then forgot), what means this hardly readable word "Tisyazki" - well, in Medieval Rus it originally meant "Man who commanded 1000 warriors", but then meaning of the podsition changed. In Novgorod (That was mighty aristocratic-merchant-oligarchic republic like one of Martin's Free Ciities with wast territories in the North) It was one of two de-facto rulers of the city, elected commander over army. In Moscow, like in many other principalities, position was mostly inherited, and it meaned that in Prince's absence this man commanded over city's army and made some basic regent functions) So, what did Vasiliy Velyaminov (Be aware, that in this story there is a LOT of people named Vasiliy), by some rumours, stole this belt, replaced it with badly made copy and delivered to some of his children... We don't know is it true or just fable made in future, but 8 years later Velyaminov died....
Well done. Excellent Picture, My dear Friend Robespierrine!!!! 😀
Je suis complètement bluffée par la qualité de cette création. En tableau, elle pourrait figurer dans un musée😊J'apprends que Dmitri Donskoï est fêté comme saint dans le calendrier de l'Eglise orthodoxe... Peut-on espérer une suite?
Love your story telling. Great image to illustrate this story too
