They called it All Hallows’ Eve now, but the dark undercurrent of the ancient festival lingered in the hearts of the villagers. The line between man and beast, between sinner and damned, had never felt thinner.

Peter Stump stood in chains before the makeshift tribunal, his body broken and bloodied from the night before. His once imposing figure now slumped, his shoulders sagging under the weight of his wounds and his capture. His face, pale and gaunt, still bore the scars of his transformation, a grisly reminder of the creature he had become. The bullet wound in his shoulder had slowed him, but it was the sight of the cross, clutched by the child he had tried to devour, that had truly undone him.

His eyes darted around the crowd, wild and desperate. The minister, Pastor Johann Dietrich, stood at the front, his face hard with righteous fury. Behind him, the villagers crowded together, their faces twisted in a mixture of fear, revulsion, and bloodlust. They had come not for justice but for vengeance.

Karl Heidemann stood to the side, musket in hand, his expression grim as the trial commenced. His words had roused the village to action, and now they were ready to see Peter pay the ultimate price for his sins.

The trial began without ceremony.

“Peter Stump,” Pastor Dietrich’s voice rang out over the square, loud and commanding. “You stand accused of heinous crimes—murder, witchcraft, heresy, and consorting with the Devil. You have terrorized this village, slaughtered its children, and made a pact with Satan himself. What say you?”

Peter swallowed hard, his throat dry, his breath coming in shallow, ragged gasps. His mind swirled with fear and confusion, the weight of his sins pressing down on him like a heavy cloak. His body ached, his thoughts scattered, but he knew—this was the end.

“I—” His voice cracked, barely above a whisper. He tried again, louder this time, his words tumbling out in a desperate rush. “I confess! I confess to everything!”

A murmur rippled through the crowd as the villagers leaned forward, eager for the grisly details of his crimes.

The cold autumn air hung heavy over the village square as the people of Bedburg gathered for the trial. The faint glow of twilight settled over the rooftops, casting long shadows on the cobbled streets as the torches were lit, their flickering flames the only warmth against the biting wind.

October 31st. A day that had long held significance, even in this Protestant village. Though the old pagan customs had mostly faded into memory, there were those who still whispered the name _Samhain_ on nights like these, a day when the veil between the living and the dead was thinnest. Now, it seemed fitting to the crowd that Peter Stump—the monster, the wolf—would be tried and executed on this cursed day.
