Vachellia xanthophloea trees grow abundantly in malaria-endemic areas.
Probably because their pale yellow-green bark make these trees so distinctive, their association with the potentially fatal illness was noted before anyone realised what caused malaria and that it was transmitted by mosquitos.
One theory proposed that it was caused by these trees, hence the name.
This image shows a towering Fever Tree with striking yellow-green bark in a South African landscape, rendered in a psychedelic art style with swirling patterns and intense, luminous colors.
