Suppose this alternate scenario:
When Phaedra wrongly accused Hippolytus of seducing in a suicide note, Theseus cursed his son.
Hippolytus tried to explain the truth---that he did not make advances with his step-mother and that he was chaste for Artemis--Theseus would not listen nor believe him.
When Hippolytus died by being dragged by spooked horses, Artemis was greatly upset. She wanted to punish for his Theseus's thick-headedness. Just like the death of Hippolytus, she sent a group of deranged horses (drawing a chariot) to trample over Theseus.
A just ending for a stupid, stupid man.
This image shows a shirtless, muscular Theseus being run over by a horse-drawn chariot at sunset. Rendered in an epic, dramatic painting style with vivid colors and intense light, it captures a moment of tragic fate.
