Pom pom pompom weed

Campuloclinium macrocephalum originated in Central and South America.

Large stretches of rangeland covered in masses of mauve pompoms are a beautiful sight, but "pompom weed" displaces indigenous biodiversity and greatly reduces the grazing capacity of rangeland. For these reasons, it is regarded as an invasive species in South Africa. It is illegal to propagate, sell, or plant; and landowners are required to try to control it, which is very difficult.
