I've had some success with only using one line of a poem and then adding the descriptive prompt. But many times I create the image based purely my 'understandings' of what the poem is communicating.

I agree, it's very hard to get exactly what you want by using only lots of poetry. Totally unpredictable (although it's part of the charm too). I employ the technique you mentioned too. This series was the first I did where the poem was longer and I still got what I wanted. I was experimenting with Algernon Charles Swinburne yesterday and you should see what kinds of kitsch the models gave me at every try, truly memorable xD
