Imagine dying on your wedding day. What’s supposed to be the happiest day of your life. I see the “ghost bride” thing everywhere—you can probably find a cheap “ghost bride” costume in any Halloween store—but this is one of the few images that I think captures how it would really feel to be her. No walking ominously around a house with your grain flowing behind you to scare strangers. No pulling up your veil to reveal a horrifying face. Just misery.

I'm honored you think this captures a true ghost bride. You're right, it must be absolutely heartbreaking, especially if you carry that grief as a ghost forever. It's a terribly sad fate. The book character I thought did it best was Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. Have you read it? She's not exactly a ghost, but as close to one as a human can get. And of course filled with misery.
