A grand ball at the heart of the Clockwork Kingdom, a painful charade he was forces to go through. But then, across the ballroom, her hair like silk shining softly in the gaslight. Eyes like amber, skin like porcelaine. Her looks captured him immediately, but it was her manner that refused to let him go. She gifted those near her with defference and comfort, and thanked the servants as they offered her guidance or food. Her every move spoke of grace and a deep seated kindness. Then her eyes met his and the two of them seemed to stop in time. The world went on around them, but they moved toward each other as if out of time and space, light and floating, the laws of gravity only applying to the pull they felt each from the other.
