Part 1: Most people didn't understand the real nature of the Oracle. Was it the machine and its immeasurable computational capabilities that produced these convoluted but always perfectly accurate predictions? Or was it the girl and her inexplicable psychic abilities? Even those who thought that the secret of the Oracle lay in the perfect osmosis of the machine and the maiden understood nothing of anything. This ignorance of the common people, of the people, and even of the great men of this world, made Professor Wangram particularly proud, for he knew. Who, on the other hand, understood. He was in charge of the maintenance and proper functioning of the Oracle. It was an important responsibility that he carried out with zeal and meticulousness.

Part 1 : La plupart des gens ne comprenaient pas la nature réelle de l’Oracle. Était-ce la machine et ses incommensurables capacités de calcul qui produisaient ces prédictions alambiquées mais toujours parfaitement justes ? Ou était-ce la jeune fille et ses inexplicables capacités psychiques ? Même ceux qui pensaient que le secret de l’Oracle résidait dans l’osmose parfaite de la machine et de la jeune fille ne comprenaient rien à rien. Cette ignorance du commun, du peuple, et même des grands de ce monde, rendait particulièrement fier le professeur Wangram qui, lui, savait. Qui, lui, comprenait. Qui, lui, avait en charge l’entretien et le bon fonctionnement de l’Oracle. Responsabilité importante dont il s’acquittait avec zèle et méticulosité. Même Audra, son épouse, elle-même scientifique pourtant, ne comprenait pas exactement le fonctionnement de l’Oracle et il avait beau le lui expliquer encore et encore… elle restait sourde à la poésie, à la beauté, à la sainteté, de l’Oracle.
