graveyard at night

It's a pity people usually equate cemeteries as spooky, creepy, ghostly and macabre. I don't. I find them peaceful and makes me introspective. There was a cemetery outside of the small village where I lived when my sons were young. One day we cycled to it to quietly explore. It was rimmed with tall conifers and the wind blowing through them made me very homesick. Conifers (trees, period) were rare on the prairie and I came from the Pacific NW where they're the predominant species. Other than the wind in the trees, it was quiet. We walked about and I'd read the inscriptions on the gravestones to my sons. So many young children had died way back before there were any vaccines developed except for smallpox. Lots had written on them what the person died from. Diphtheria was a major killer. We talked about how different life was then. Then we cycled home.
