Eight legged menace of the forest the Spitting Behir spits highly concentrated formic acid. Hags would sometimes keep them as young as they found this acid production useful but they would, and probably still are turned out into the forest once mature (2 years old). They are then replaced with a new hatchling. They often don't wonder far from where they were raised. This leads to them becoming quite prevalent in concentrated areas. The eggs though are quite nutritious, if you can find them without treading on them, hidden as they are under moss.
This image shows a large, blue, six-legged dragon-lizard with a hatchling in a high-fantasy forest setting. The detailed matte painting features deep colors and intricate details, reminiscent of fantasy concept art.
