The streets of Eversham were quiet after the chaos of the tavern. Lantern light flickered in doorways as Edward walked Fairbairn back, his aim under steady under hers. Helena followed behind them. Fairbairn tried to brush off the ache in her cheek, and the rip in her skirt, but her steps slowed, weariness setting in Now that the adrenaline had faded.
Edward broke the silence with a half-smile. “Not the evening I promised, was it?”
Fairbairn gave a dry laugh. “No. But it's one I won’t forget.”
They arrived at the Monastery. Helena unlocked entered the gates and gave the password to Leading Seaman Wright, who was on guard duty. Fairbairn and Edward lingered in the gateway, while Helena stood close by.
“Shall we do this again?” Edward asked.

“I'd love that. I'll check with Colonel Larkin and let you know.”
“And I will check with Godrick and let you know.” Edward paused. “Well, good evening, Miss Fairbairn.” He took the palm of her hand and kissed it.
Fairbairn blushed. “Aw! Thank you, and good evening, Edward!” She gave him a hug. “That's how we end outings like this on Earth.” With that Edward headed back home, turning and waving every so often. Fairbairn smiled and waved back at him. The two continued this until they couldn't see each other.
Fairbairn locked the gate and then she and Helena went into the dormitory.
“Thanks be to God you're both safe. Izzy…”
