I open it up and there's a little text bubble in my notifications, with a black, bolded name that I had not expected to appear at all. Jake. I kind of just stared at the name. I hadn’t known about him for a few years. I went to a different middle and high school then he did, and we haven’t been able to contact each other since. I wonder how he got my number..? Don’t remember if I gave it to him before. He didn’t have a phone yet, but I think he asked me just in case in 5th grade. I’m not sure. But that’s not important right now. What’s more important is seeing his name again pop up, flooding my mind with early happy memories.

Yep, definitely faster. I open it up and decide to send him my own response. Hey! It's Ruby- I'm good! How 'bout you? And what ya doin' right now?” I put my phone away again. I suddenly had this fluttering feeling in my stomach to see him again. It’s been long anyways. I think about meeting up with him at the park. I smile wider, and I find myself running off into the house, getting my stuff done to leave. Could this day change for the better? Who knows…
