I observed a spider building a web across a trail one day. How do they cross the distance between bushes without entangling or sticking their thread? They let a sticky thread float in the wind to cross the first time. Then they fasten both ends and drop a vertical riser from the midpoint to the ground and attach it to the base of one side. Then they use the riser and more to move around. They disconnect from temporary anchors and reconnect as proper threads are installed. They adjust and tighten attachment positions. THEN I went around and walked home. In researching, i discovered they have multiple types of glands. The structure is built of non-sticky thread. Only the rings are layed with sticky thread. That’s how they can move around without getting stuck in their own webs. And they are never taught or see demonstrations. It’s all built into their DNA.
