Houses out of cards

I’m building houses out of cards that are as fragile as my dreams Part of life’s illusions, it is never what it seems One puff of air disturbs it, however big it’s grown And the whole structure will come crashing down

I’m building castles out of sand but they soon will wash away The sea will take the sand back when the tide returns each day Nothing to display for all my efforts on the shore A smooth damp beach just as it was before.

I’m building pipedreams out of hope, which are a shadow of my mind Like smoke, they fade and wither, there is nothing there to find I’m building castles in the air, which are going to blow away Which goes to prove that dreaming doesn’t pay.

reminds me of a poem of mine I wrote a long time ago, when I first had ME, and was rather bitter that my youth and vigor had been swiped from me...
