In Wagner's tetralogy, Der Ring des Nibelungen, it all starts with Alberich, the Nibelung dwarf. He forsakes love to steal Rhine gold, forging a powerful ring. His actions spark a chain of events involving gods, heroes, and betrayal, driving the tetralogy’s drama. Alberich’s lust for power and subsequent curse on the ring set the stage for the epic’s tragic unfolding.
