The title is staying true to the sailor. Nice work. A Letter to "a" Sweetheart. Not HIS sweetheart, or THE sweetheart. There's a girl in every port. What I don't understand is that if you take each sailor on a boat, let's call it fifty. And they've hit ten ports while underway...that's 500 sheets of paper. That's a ream of paper! Where on earth were they storing all of this paper? And how did they mail it from sea? Carrier pigeon? That's at least fifty pigeons! Where did they sleep? How did they stop the letter from getting wet while the pigeon flew it back to from whence they came?! Did the bird ever take the letter to the wrong girlfriend...or God forbid, take it back to the Mrs?! OMG. So many questions.

Yes, delivering messages and letters from sailors at that time was a real challenge! One of most common ways to get messages home was to transfer letters to any vessel encountered at sea or in port that was heading towards home (wherever that was.) Often times it would be months before the letter was received. It is also interesting to note that is was mainly the naval officers who had the ability to write home. Many common sailors at that time did not know how to write and also did not have the means of writing (paper, ink etc.)
