"Well, what are you thinking," Kaley asked. "Since it's hypothetical right now."

"The best way to build trust is joint training," Shika began slowly. "But it has to be at the hip. Not their fighter next to ours, their navigator behind our pilot. and reverse. Force them to work together to fly, not to fight."

"Ok, but why not to fight?"

Shika looked wistfully out the viewport. "We already know how to fight - against each other. Fighter next to fighter is going to be hotshots trying to one-up each other, and that never ends well. In the same craft, though..."

"There's an element of competition, and two unlikely teammates to get the job done," Kaley said, nodding. "Not bad."

"It's just what makes sense," Shila replied. "I'd integrate a 50/50 exchange everywhere but the flagship."

"Yeah...let's see what Admiral mom thinks of it." Kaley thumped the bulkhead. "Who knows what's on the other end of your promotion, eh?"
