**2000: The joint song. Part 1.** Eric had finally made his dream come true: his own punk band. Since Finni had met his best friend in the spring of 1998, Eric had two favorite topics of conversation: girls and his plans for his own band. For a long time, he was unsuccessful at both. Eric was intelligent, funny, good-looking and popular everywhere. Many girls compared him to Leonardo DiCaprio, which Finni could understand. Through Finni's short film from the summer of 1998, in which Eric played the lead role, Eric had become almost as well known at the school as Finni himself. But although almost everyone found Eric somehow cute, most people found it inconceivable to enter into a committed relationship with someone like Eric. Eric's hedonistic nature meant that he chased from one pleasure to the next. This made every moment with Eric an adventure and his good humor was infectious.

**Part 2.** But the downside of this trait was that Eric's focus on current needs could make him seem very selfish to others in some situations and he was very unreliable: he often didn't keep an appointment if something else seemed more exciting to him at the moment. This was probably the main reason why Eric, despite otherwise good conditions, did not find a girlfriend for a long time. It was similar with his friendships: Eric had a lot of friends, but almost none of them were really lasting relationships.

It was different with Finni and Eric: Although Eric's unreliability and occasional emotional insensitivity often drove the responsible and highly sensitive Finni crazy, Finni saw something very special in Eric. Like others, Finni loved Eric for his cheerful and charming nature – which reminded Finni a lot of Danny, his first great love. But Danny was a conformist. His greatest motivation was to please others and not to do anything that others might find strange.

**Part 3.** This is precisely what prevented Danny and Finni from remaining a couple, even though they loved each other very much. But in this very point, Eric was the exact opposite of Danny. Eric was an individualist and he loved the non-conformist – like Finni. In his younger years, Finni had often suffered from the fact that he was unintentionally different from most other people in so many ways. You can read the story about this here:

Over the years, however, Finni had not only learned to accept this difference, but had even come to love it as part of his personality. And this he shared with Eric. Eric was one of the most intelligent people Finni had met. Unlike almost everyone else in Finni's circle, Eric understood the difference between more trivial forms of creative expression and real art. And Eric and Finni shared the same political values.
