F@rting is not sinful
As part of @siobhantheonly 's ongoing Afrikaans language lessons, here is a poem by renowned poet A.G. Visser (1879 to 1929).
The first stanza reads:
O’ gonna ek hoop dis die einde van die kerk
Ek kan nie meer sit nie, my maag wil werk
Die dominee praat lank en die son sit laag
Die vreeslikste pyne kruip rond in my maag.
Oh golly, I hope the end of Church is nigh;
I can't sit any longer with my tummy going nuts.
The Minister drones on and the sun's no longer high,
And the most terrible pain's rumbling around in my guts.
Anyone who enjoys Afrikaans or Dutch and scatological humour would probably find it worth googling the whole poem.
A humorous illustration of a man in church, struggling with flatulence. Other parishioners look on with expressions of shock and amusement. The style is reminiscent of storybook art with alcohol ink.
