Historical "average lifespan" stats/estimates are a poor indicator of "average age at death" because of high infant mortality rates.  But even so, middle-aged probably wasn't much above 35 for most of human history.  Not that any of the AI art models would be thinking along these lines 😉 

1) This is why I enjoy our conversations - you're intelligent over a wide field. It's been a *bête nour* of mine how people will insist that the lifespan in late Neolithic times was only 25-30 years. They were **old** at that age. 🙄 BS! 

Not just high infant mortality rates, but diseases, wars and maternal mortality rates really took their toll on what was the average rate. Among the nobility, maternal mortality was rather alarming! It was considered vital that any of the aristocracy (who wanted to hold onto the lands, wealth and political power) needed a good number of children, both sons and daughters. A person could easily lose 3 or 4 sons, by early infant mortality, disease or in war so extra were needed. Daughters were important as they served as useful pawns in arranging strategic marriages, strengthening alliances. And since many died in childbirth, it was good to marry off your daughter to the widower who needed her to make more babies.

Indeed.  All valid points.  I'm not sure where the failure points are, but communication of STEM concepts to the public at large has been an unmitigated disaster.  Understanding that average lifespan and average age at death are not even remotely the same requires an understanding of statistics that goes far beyond what most people understand.
