2) Karl's deranged son will almost kill a planet . . . in order to "impress?!" his twin sister.

Karl's "best friend" (a disgraced child psychologist) will adopt his daughter . . . at her insistence.

You get the gist. As heroes go, Karl's redemption will be hard won. As for his wife -- that's another story.
