Pain shot through him, but he managed a blood-stained, defiant grin. “Not today, mon ami,” he muttered, barely a whisper, as he grabbed the Sentinel’s tentacle with bloody hands. Charged with energy, they pulsed like his fading heartbeat, glowing violet against the darkening sky. Each pulse held his past—regrets, lost loves, choices. And now, this would be his final trick. With a flick of his wrist, he sent all the energy into the heart of the machine. A flash of light, and the explosion swallowed the Sentinel whole. As it crumbled, Remy embraced the darkness, knowing he’d go out his way, in a blaze that’d make even the stars jealous.
