Gosh! I've never heard of them until now ... Great image ... 

The image isn't quite right, but this is the closest I've got so far.  Ironically, there's no particular concern about their conservation status despite their highly restricted diet.  Poor land management often leads to increasing termite populations and happy days for these guys.  Even so, you're not alone in not being familiar with them.  They're nocturnal and very shy.

Please keep the informative images rolling ... Love 'em all (and the descriptions) ... Maybe that's the role of some of us here (to broaden  the horizons of folk stuck in ruts of one sort or another) (as if I'm not, too 😉) 

*Proteles cristatus* is also known as the *maanhaarjakkals* (jackal with mane).
